Building a Modeling Portfolio in Boston | Editorial Session with Derrick Cruz

June 16, 2026

There’s something really exciting about being at the beginning of a new journey - especially when someone is stepping into a new version of themselves and building confidence along the way.

Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph Derrick Cruz, who came into the studio to begin building his modeling portfolio.

For this session, the goal was to create images that felt elevated, versatile, and editorial — the kind of content that could help showcase Derrick’s potential while beginning to build a strong portfolio for future opportunities.

We worked through two different looks, allowing us to create a variety of images that felt both polished and expressive. From clean portraits to more editorial-inspired moments, the focus was on highlighting confidence, personality, and range.

One of the things I love most about these kinds of sessions is helping people feel comfortable enough to step into their vision — whether that means building a modeling portfolio, growing a personal brand, or simply seeing themselves in a new light.

Modeling sessions are never about trying to fit into a box - they’re about showcasing what makes you uniquely you.

And during Pride Month, that message feels especially meaningful.

At our studio, everyone is welcome. I truly believe photography should be a space where people feel comfortable showing up exactly as they are - confidently, creatively, and fully themselves.

Whether you’re an aspiring model, creative, entrepreneur, or simply looking to build confidence in front of the camera, these sessions are designed to help bring your vision to life.
